My silly girl

Savannah was feeding her cheeese crackers to Hummer at lunch today. I told her to stop feeding him and she told me that he just couldn't resist!! I never know what she is going to say next.

Hannah's Garden

Yesterday I had the honor of helping plant Hannah's garden. I was able to meet some amazing women and their children. I think Hannah was pleased with her beautiful garden, although I bet she would trade it for some chicken and fries!! She is so cute! I love her blond curls and this girl knows what she likes and what she wants; typical four year old. I really can't put into words how I felt yesterday, it was amazing to say the least. We are all there for Hannah and her family because we care. Most of the other women were mothers of children with cancer and they are all good friends too. I had met Penny and Nikki before, so I at least knew someone!
I forgot to bring my camera but if you want to see some pictures check out these links.
This is a slide show from Nikki's Caringbridge page, she took most of the pictures.

Hannah

Friends and family,
I have been approached by a friend about helping a sweet little 4 year old girl. Hannah has a type of brain tumor that can not be operated on and she is nearing the end of her earthly journey. Hannah had a garden but our brutal Florida sunshine pretty much fried it. She wants a new garden to enjoy but funds are tight. So this Sunday evening Penny Hawkins (Nikki's Mom), myself and a few others are planning on giving this sweetie a garden. So far we only have $53 to purchase plants and supplies. We really want this to be nice for her, so if you can, please donate a few dollars or your time. (if your local)
I'm including a link to Nikki page and Hannah's so you can read about these amazing girls. If you can help please contact myself or Penny. It's very important that we do this, Hannah deserves a garden.

Back to life

Well it's official, summer is over! All the fun is over now that school is in session again. No more sleeping in, no more being able to stay home all day if I want, no more surprise beach visits during the week. As much as I love having the boys at school, I actually miss having them around the house.
I feel blessed that they are able to go to school everyday. They both love their teachers and schools. Luke has already found a girlfriend in his class. He said her name was Sierra and she sits next to him, and of course she very pretty. Austin is more concerned with hanging out with the guys and trading cards, and talking about video games.
The boys go to schools on opposite ends of Pinellas County, so I do quite a bit of driving. Matt takes Luke in the morning when he's in town. So I only have to take Austin in the mornings, but I have to pick them both up everyday. There is a bus for Luke to ride but I would still have to take him to and from the bus stop. The busing around here isn't the greatest, it involves much waiting.
So were off to another year of school and many hours of driving for Mom. I love that I am able to stay home and give them rides. I'm sure they will all finishing school before I know what happened. They are growing up so fast. I can't imagine our family any other way, but before I know it, the kids will be gone, and it's just Matt and I. That will be strange because it's never been just the two of us; Austin had just turned 1 when we met. I'm really looking forward to our 'golden' years together. I love my family so much and look forward to each day with them.
Speaking of getting back to real life, I need to get ready to take Savannah ready to go to the dentist for her first cleaning. She's pretty excited and loves the dentist office. She went a couple weeks ago for an exam with x-rays, and everything looked great, no cavities. The boys didn't have any either!! They go for their cleaning after school today.

Up on a soapbox today

I was watching a show the other night about the super-rich and what some of them do to their cars. They would spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on a brand new car and then put another couple hundred thousands on 'pimping' it out. I was amazed at what they can do theses days to make these cars customs. The cars are really neat but I do know why you need such extravagance? I think it bothers me because I know of so many better things to spend money on.

Everyday I read about children that are fighting for their lives and sometimes losing the battle. I have read about so many parents that were told that their is nothing more that can be done to save their children. I can't imagine how helpless a parent must feel to hear that their child will die and you will watch it. How can this be in 2007? We need to fight for our children and find a cure. I'm sure everything seems rare until it's your child. We owe all these brave families more than they are getting. They need to know that they are important and that we are united in finding a cure.

I know of quite a few families that are going above and beyond in fighting the beast that is pediatric cancer. Foundations are being started and money is being raised to support families in need and funding research. We need more trials and new drugs made for children not adults. I encourage everyone to do something about this. September is National Childhood cancer Awareness Month. Tell everyone to support research and families. Many families lose their home, and everything, many have to travel long distances to get treatment. Some families aren't able to survive cancer and split up. None of this is OK and we need to change it.

Looking back

I can't believe that it's already the middle of August 2007. Where has all the time gone? It seem like it was just yesterday that I was planning my summer. And now my kids start school next Monday and Tuesday. Austin will be in 5th grade and Luke will be in 2nd grade. I still need to get Austin some new pants and they both need school supplies. It's really hard to buy any supplies before school starts because each teacher has a different list of things they need. So it looks like we will be at Wal-Mart along with 1/2 the county on Monday night!

We have had an awesome summer and I've enjoyed ever minute of it. I took the kids to the beach yesterday afternoon just for fun. We only stayed about an hour and a half, we had enough time to collect shells and swim. The water was like bath water, almost to hot, and it was so calm. It was a perfect day for the beach and I'm so glad we went. I love that we only live 10 minutes from the Gulf of Mexico; paradise. It's very important to me that my kids have a happy and fun childhood. I want them to look back and remember how much their parents loved them and all the things we were able to do.

I may complain about my kids from time to time, after all they are human. They drive me crazy most of the time. They argue, complain, fight, tease each other, make messes, and more messes. They can be selfish and ungrateful. It's during these times that I remind myself that I wanted kids!! They are also the sweetest kids you will ever meet. They love each other more than anything and would do anything for loved ones. I'm so proud of them, and the wonderful people that they are. They know how blessed they are to be health and stable. They know about other kids that are fighting for their lives and families are split up. They know that it's always better to help someone else out. They've seen others reach out t0 us when we needed help.

I'm sure that in a few years I'll be sitting at my computer like I am now wondering where all the time went. I hope that I am looking back at wonderful memories like I am now. Family vacations, middle school, high school, dances, college, marriage, kids, etc. I love my life and my family.

My other kids

This is Pepperoni and he is the biggest baby. He is from somewhere in North Carolina and was a stray. Matt's Aunt Ila found him last June at church. He was alone dirty and very hungry. Aunt Ila has a special place in her heart for strays. We went up to visit last July and brought Pepperoni home with us. Ila was calling him Romeo because he is such a lover, but Savannah took one look at him and started calling him Pepperoni, so that was his name.

We think he is a mix of Jack Russel Terrier and beagle and maybe 3 or 4 years old. He just went to the vet and we were told that he's a bit overweight at 24 pounds. He gained 4 pounds in the last year. His favorite hobby is sleeping. He loves sleeping with us and even likes getting under the covers. Give him a bucket and he goes crazy!!

This is Hummer, our other baby. We got him in the spring of 06 when he was a puppy. He went from 4 pounds to almost 16 pounds! We got him from a breeder and he is a rare blue chihuahua. Hummer got his name from Luke, and it's so fitting. Hummer follows me around everywhere and is always under my feet. He loves to play with everyone, especially Matt. If you even look at him he start es wagging his tail and will flip over on his back so you can rub his belly.
These two really are BFF's. They look out for each other, sleep together and play together.
